The DOST Intellectual Property Award - International Publication Award (DOST IPA-IPub) is given annually to scientists and researchers of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) who were able to publish their research outputs in Web of Science/Clarivate Analytics or Scopus indexed journals in the last three (3) years before the year of the nomination.

MAGSAYSAY FUTURE ENGINEERS/TECHNOLOGISTS AWARD

The Magsaysay Future Engineers/Technologists Award aims to encourage young Filipino students to pursue a career in science, engineering, and technology and to recognize outstanding research outputs on engineering and technology at the collegiate level.

Candidate Qualification:
● Filipino citizen
● Bachelor of Science (BS) student or recent graduate with research/study/thesis on engineering sciences and technology
● Must not have graduated with BS degree before October 1 prior to the year of the award
● Of good moral character
● Able to present the research/study/thesis output during the paper presentation, which will be scheduled.

The competition is open to BS students enrolled, or graduated within the recent twelve months, in an engineering or related technology-oriented program (refer to Annex A for the non-exclusive listing of possible programs). Candidates from other STEM programs may also be considered, provided that their research work is technology-oriented. Areas of study should fall within the priority areas of the Department of Science and Technology.

Nominations to this award shall be made/endorsed by the school administrators, or heads of professional, academic, or honor societies, with the following requirements:
a) duly accomplished nomination form
b) comprehensive biodata
c) copy of publication/pre-print based on his/her research/thesis/study
d) Transcript of Records
e) certification from co-author/s allowing the nominee to present the paper
f) certification from co-authors on the extent of the role of the nominee in the research/thesis/study, or from the nominator/endorser in case of sole authorship
g) relative standing of the nominee in his/her batch

The Criteria for judging are as follows:
(1) Person (20%)
(2) Output (80%)
● Methodology (20%)
● Quality of innovativeness/originality/creativity (15%)
● Quality of write-up of the submitted research/thesis/study document/s (15%)
● Contribution to science/technology knowledge and/or impact on Philippine business and industry (30%)

The First, Second and Third Prize winners will receive a cash prize of Php 100,000.00, Php 50,000.00 and Php 30,000.00, respectively and plaque of recognition from NAST. The special citations will receive a cash prize of Php 10,000.00 each and a plaque of recognition.


NAST Award for Outstanding Research in Tropical Medicine

The NAST Award for Outstanding Research in Tropical Medicine (NAORTM) is intended to recognize outstanding research works that contribute to the advancement of the country’s knowledge and practice in Tropical Medicine.

Objectives
• To honor outstanding research contributions to the field of Tropical Medicine
• To recognize the role of scientific research in the country’s development

Procedure
The NAORTM will be given annually during the celebration of Health Month. It will follow a two-step process. The first step is open to all individuals or groups engaged in scientific and technological research (basic or applied) that focuses on Tropical Medicine. Only the aspirants who pass the screening by the Board of Judges will be asked to present their papers to the Science Congress to be held during the Annual Convention of the Manila Medical Society.

The Board of Judges will select the most outstanding research paper presented at the Science Congress. The winner will receive the NAST Award for Outstanding Research in Tropical Medicine, which will include a plaque of recognition and cash prize.

Candidate Qualifications
1. Filipino citizen
2. Affiliated with any of the following:

  • Scientific society (academic or professional);
  • Research institution or firm (government or private);
  • College or university;
  • Non-government organization

3. Able to present a scientific paper (published or unpublished, completed within the last three [3] years prior to the award) during a science congress scheduled during the Annual Convention of the Manila Medical Society. The involvement of the nominee in the research should be explained if the paper is jointly authored. 

Nominations to this award may be made by the heads of government or private research institutions, departments, institutes of colleges or universities, academic or professional scientific organizations, societies, non-government organizations, or environmental organizations. 

The deadline for submission of nominations is every last working day of November.


NAST Environmental Science Award

The NAST Environmental Science Award is intended to recognize outstanding scientific and technological research work that contributes to environmental protection and conservation. The nominee should be able to show strength in using the interdisciplinary / transdisciplinary approach needed in environmental science.

With the rapid pace of environmental degradation and the possible eventual depletion of our natural resources, it is vital that the remaining resources be used wisely and that pollution and contamination be prevented for the benefit of today’s and future generations.

The grand prize winner will receive a cash prize and plaque of recognition from the Academy. Winners of special citations will receive plaques of recognition.

Candidates nominated must be:

(a) Filipino citizen;
(b) Affiliated with any of the following:

  • Scientific society (academic or professional);
  • Research institution or firm (government or private);
  • College or university;
  • Environmental organization
  • Any other relevant non-governmental organization;

(c) Able to present a scientific paper (published or unpublished) during a science congress scheduled before or during the Earth Day celebration.
The involvement of the nominee in the research should be explained if the paper is jointly authored;
(d) Community work in one’s field and involvement in advocacy and information dissemination; and
(e) Of good moral character.

Nominations to this award may be made by the heads of government or private research institutions, departments, institutes of colleges or universities, academic or professional scientific organizations, societies, non-government organizations, or environmental organizations.

Decisions of the Board of Judges shall be final and not appealable.


NAST Talent Search for Young Scientists

The NAST Talent Search for Young Scientists is a project of NAST to encourage young people to pursue a career in science.

Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded to the best three scientific paper presenters. The paper for presentation may be basic or applied research.

Candidates nominated must be:
(a) Filipino citizens;
(b) Must not be more than thirty-five (35) years old within January to December in the year of the awarding;
(c) Graduates of at least a master's degree;
(d) Of good moral character;
(e) Affiliated with any of the following:

  • scientific society (academic or professional)
  • research institution or firm (government or private)
  • college/university;

(f) Able to present a scientific paper (ISI/Scopus published or accepted for publication in major journals) which he/she is a major contributor in a public forum, which will be scheduled for this purpose. The involvement of the nominee in the research should be explained if the paper is jointly authored.

Nominations for this award may be made by heads of government or private research institutions, departments of colleges or universities, or academic or professional scientific organizations or societies.

The deadline for submission of nominations is every last working day of November.

Outstanding Book and/or Monograph Award

These awards are given annually for books and/or monographs published by Filipino publishers based in the Philippines within five years preceding the award. Majority of the authors of the publication should be Filipino.
Plaques of recognition will be awarded to the author/s of books or monographs adjudged to be outstanding in the field of:

  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Biological Sciences
  • Mathematical and Physical Sciences
  • Engineering Sciences and Technology
  • Health Sciences
  • Social Sciences

Books or monographs will be judged for the quality and originality of their content, contribution to science and technology, clarity of presentation, and thoroughness of documentation.

Nominations may be made by editors of journals and/or publications, heads of scientific societies/organizations, or individual researchers.

Please submit twelve (12) copies of the book or monograph.

The deadline for submission of nominations is every last working day of November.

Outstanding Scientific Paper Award

These awards are given annually for papers published in Thomson Reuters or SCOPUS listed journals in the Philippines within five years preceding the award.

Plaques of recognition will be awarded to the author/s of papers adjudged to be outstanding in the fields of:

  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Biological Sciences
  • Engineering Sciences and Technology
  • Mathematical and Physical Sciences
  • Health Sciences
  • Social Sciences

Papers will be judged for the quality of their content, contribution to science and technology, clarity of presentation, and thoroughness of documentation.

Nominations may be made by editors of journals and/or publications, heads of scientific societies/organizations, or individual researchers.

The deadline for submission of nominations is every last working day of November.

Outstanding Young Scientist Award

The Outstanding Young Scientist (OYS) Awards are given to young Filipino scientists (must not be 41 years old within January to December in the year of the awarding) who have made significant contributions to science and technology.

A total of twelve (12) OYS Awards are available annually, split among the following divisions:

  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Biological Sciences
  • Mathematical and Physical Sciences
  • Engineering Sciences and Technology
  • Health Sciences
  • Social Sciences

The award consists of a trophy and a cash prize.

A nominee must be:
(a) A Filipino citizen;
(b) Must NOT be forty-one (41) years old or older within January to December in the year of the awarding
(c) Of exceptional ability to undertake scientific research as evidenced by papers published in reputable scientific journals; and
(d) Of good moral character.

Judging is based on:
(a) Quality and number of scientific works and publications
(b) Contributions to the advancement of science in general and science in the Philippines, in particular; and
(c) Contributions to the well-being of the Philippine economy and culture. Nominations for these awards may be made by heads of government or private research institutions, departments of colleges or universities, or academic or professional scientific organizations or societies.

DOST-NSTW Outstanding Research and Development Award

The award is given to individuals/groups who have made outstanding contributions through research. Two types of awards will be given, namely: (1) Basic Research and (2) Applied Research. 

For Basic Research, entries may come from any of the following fields:
1. Mathematical (Computer Science)
2. Physical (Physics, Chemistry, etc.)
3. Life Sciences (Biology, Botany, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, etc.)

For Applied Research, entries may come from any of the following fields:
1. Agriculture (including Aquaculture and Forestry)
2. Industry and Engineering (Energy, Environment, Earth Science, Textile, Pharmaceuticals, Process, Mining and Minerals, Materials Science, Transportation, Wood and Wood Products, Construction, Electronics, Information Technology, Engineering Technologies)

DOST-NSTW Outstanding Science Administrator Award

The award is given in recognition of S&T or R&D administrators who have made significant contributions to science and technology through effective management and implementation of plans and programs. The S&T or R&D administrator may come from the academe, private sector or government. 


DOST-NSTW Outstanding Technology Commercialization Award

The award is given in recognition of the efforts of technology generators and developers whose technologies have been commercialized. Only one award will be given every year. Entries may come from any of the following such as: 
● Agriculture (including Fisheries and Forestry)
● Industry and Engineering (Energy, Environment, Earth Science, Textile, Process, Mining and Minerals, Materials Science, Transportation, Wood and Wood Products, Construction)
● Health and Nutrition and Related Pharmaceuticals and Social Sciences
